In The Beginning

Hello world. The reason I created this website and blog is to encourage me to write more about my volunteer English tutoring adventures.

I think this blog will help me to write more but also to learn more. My preferred method for learning is via reading books. I have read and continue to read non-fiction books about a broad range of topics. Sometimes I do get distracted by gaming, but I want to get back to being more focussed on reading and writing. It’s easy to get distracted from reading and writing these days – with the Internet being the main distraction. But I also think that its far easier to be distracted by other hobbies and interests in today’s world, they’re just far more accessible. There’s also probably far more distracting gear to buy for hobbies these days. Perhaps, you could say I’m aiming for ‘less is more’ with my hobbies and interests.

I guess one of the first things I should state is that I’m not going to write about specific students on this blog. That would be a breach of privacy and I’m always pretty focussed on building trust with my students.

I’m planning on trying to post once a week. I don’t want to focus too much on this blog. I think my main focus is providing value to my students. I’ve always been very focussed on helping people and that strangely is my greatest joy in life. The other strange thing is it doesn’t really cost me anything. If I was careful the costs would be zero.

I have thought about running my writing through AI to clean it up, but I’ve decided I want to leave my words as my own. AI’s write so well it’s annoying. It’s more authentic to use my own words.

I don’t want to write too much in my first entry, as I want to write about specific topics in specific posts.

My local park in Melbourne. With my setup I use for outdoor student sessions.
